In 1949 Tom Hennessy created the first ever Hennessy Hammock. After over 50 prototypes his hammock / tent hybrid was perfected. The Hennessy Hammock Expedition Asym is a one of a kind airborne hammock that offers much more than the average backyard hammock ever can. It is ultra-versatile, lightweight and very well designed in every aspect.

The Expedition version of the Hennessy Hammock was voted most popular and was given the title of most innovative hammock. This hammock was also given lots of praise by Soldier of Fortune, National Geographic, Dwell Magazine and is the winner of the Sea Kayaker Magazine Reader’s Choice Award
The lightweight design makes this an ideal backwoods trekking tent. If you are covering lots of ground the weight of your gear is always an issue. Lugging around a 50 pound A-frame tent doesn’t make for a good experience especially if you are walking miles each day.
The Hennessy “UltraLite Backpacker Hammock” features an super light design and weighs only 1.5 pounds! The Hennessy Expedition Asym only weighs a couple pounds more.
The Hennessy Hammock Expedition Asym has gotten great reviews all across the board. Along with being incredibly comfortable without a mattress pad it keeps your body level at all times while laying down. Because you are hanging above ground in this hammock you feel like your floating on air, it is quite easy to fall asleep in.
Being above ground has many benefits, you avoid sleeping on hard roots, rocks and uneven landscape; you also avoid any insects and snakes that are active at night. Floating above ground on the Hennessy Expedition leaves little to no trace, it has virtually no impact on the environment you are visiting.
The “Never Flip” safety feature keeps you balanced and right side up even in heavy winds. This design allows you to use your Hennessy Expedition even in brutally rough, windy environments. However, if you expect strong, cold winds make sure to bring extra blankets, it can get cold quickly if you aren’t prepared!
The simplicity of the setup is quite nice, all you need is two trees and your a few moments away from having a nap in the clouds. The only difficulty people usually encounter is learning to tie a few specific knots that will mount your hammock properly. Other than that it would be nice if the optional “snakeskins” were included with the hammock and not sold as an attachment. These make the setup and take down much faster, the snakeskins allow you to dismount your Hennessy Hammock quickly and to store it in a pre-configured, set up state. On the upside snakeskins don’t cost very much money and only weigh 1 oz each! If you plan on buying the Hennessy Hammock I highly recommend you spend the extra $20 and pickup the optional snakeskins.
Whether you’re looking for a comfortable camping hammock or a super-lightweight backpacking tent the Hennessy Expedition is a great choice for most applications. A modest price tag is the icing on the cake. The Hennessy Hammock Expedition Asym costs less than half the price of the leading backpacking tent.
EXPEDITION ASYM HAMMOCK
This hammock is fantastic, I really enjoy sleeping in it. It’s my favorite tent for summer time backpacking and camping.
The main issue is that it’s not the best option for late fall or winter, even with the added attachments.
