In this Pocket Bushman review you’ll learn about the popular supersized folder by Cold Steel. One of the things that really impressed me right off the bat was that it came very sharp right out of the box. This knife is advertised to handle all kinds of jobs and to take one hell of a beating, Cold Steel has said that the Pocket Bushman is practically bulletproof.
Cold Steel Pocket Bushman Features:
- 4 1/2″ Plain Edge Blade
- Ram Safe Lock
- Surprisingly Large Knife
- Stainless Bead Blast Handle
- Lanyard Hole
- Pocket Clip
- Slim Profile
- Good Weight – Size Ratio
- Dual Thumb Studs
The blade is constructed of Krupp 4116 stainless steel and comes very sharp right out of the box, this blade really maintains a good edge. I’ve taken my Pocket Bushman into the wilderness quite a few times and it stayed sharp even after some serious abuse.
The locking mechanism on this knife is very interesting. The ‘ram safe’ design provides one of the most secure locks I’ve ever seen, it’s rock tight.
To close the blade you need to release the lock by pulling down on the lanyard which slides the locking bar open, you can then pull out the blade. This knife definitely takes some effort to close, even with two hands but I have noticed that as you break it in the motion becomes smoother.
The handle on this knife is quite interesting as well, especially in the way it works together with the Ram Safe locking mechanism. It is created from 1 piece of folded 420 stainless steel and has a good looking bead blasted finish.
Our Pocket Bushman Review Revealed Some Issues:

Don’t Abuse Your Pocket Bushman And It Will Serve You For Years!
“The notion that a heavy hunting knife can do the work of a hatchet Is a delusion. When it comes to cleaving carcasses, chopping kindling, blazing thick-barked trees, driving tent pegs or trap stakes, and keeping up a bivouac fire, a knife never was made that will compare with a good tomahawk.”
Horace Kephart - Camping and Woodcraft
A large part of being an effective outdoor survivalist is using your tools for what they were designed. I think Cold Steel did themselves a disservice by marketing the Pocket Bushman as “indestructible”. This knife will never be able to take the place of a good machete or axe, and you shouldn’t expect it to.
COLD STEEL POCKET BUSHMAN

Pocket Bushman Folding Knife
Wow! That’s a HUGE folder.
the bushmans a decent knife.. I bought mine a few years ago and use it about once every 2 weeks.. it hasn’t broken or had any issues yet.
its quite a strong, heavy duty type of knife, especially for a folding blade. this is a pretty strong cutting tool ive done some medium sized jobs with it and it held up to my tests.
overall I’m very happy with my purchase.
Thanks for sharing your review my friend. Cheers!
This maybe a bit big for what I need. At least it’s cheap (like all of Cold Steel products), maybe I’ll just grab one for the hell of it 🙂
